Former Home Minister P Chidambaram has raked in a controversy by asking the government to show evidence on the “much-publicized surgical strikes” in Pak-occupied Kashmir on Thursday last. In an interview to a national daily, he accused BJP –led NDA government of over publicing the strikes, which is a normal feature. He disagreed with the perception that its was India’s paradigm shift in policy by crossing the LoC and smashing terror launch pads. India has done similar strike in 2013 itself during UPA rule, he claimed.
Another Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said the strikes are just fake and projected to extract political mileage at a time electons to UP, Punjab are to take place.
Reacting to Chidambaram’s remarks, Ravishankar Prasad, Union Minister, lambasted the Congress for what he called as “degrading nation’s image” before the international community. “You are suspecting the great sacrifices made by the army. You are humiliating the armed forces and their valor. What do you do with the evidence? Your leader expressed solidarity with the government and you are making such remarks. Is this Congress’ official line?” Ravishankar Prasad asked.
We want to ask him (Chidambaram) whether he is also joining the bandwagon of doubting capacity of our jawans in conducting surgical strikes, Prasad said.
Mr Prasad has also come down heavily on Arvind Kejriwal for the latter’s remarks on strikes.
I want to ask Arvind Kejriwal whether he believes in the extraordinary valour of our Army or not in conducting strike. If yes, then he is getting influenced by the false propaganda of Pakistan, Mr Prasad stated.
This is the time that we should stand united and any discordant voice will be counter productive and damage our image, Prasad felt.
