Xiaomi is the China mobile brand that is not at all associated with the cheapness, imitative, mass produced electronics the country is known for. It gave tough competition to high end multinational models like iPhone, Sony etc. One of its flagship models, Mi3 reportedly sold one lakh pieces online in 90 seconds of its launch! Launched just three years ago in 2011, the brand has emerged as one the biggest players in the mobile handset zone in China, and now, aiming 40 million handset sales in 2014, is entering another highly populated area, India.
Xiaomi has confirmed partnership with India’s online major Flipkart, and will launch about 3-4 models in late July, early August period. As CEO of Xiaomi Lin Bin is looking at a really high sales figure, all models will be priced aggressively. Among the models to debut, “Redmi” will be a low priced smartphone decked with high end features. The 4.7 inch 720p display phone will have a 1.5 GHz processor with 1 GB RAM, 4GB internal storage and 8 MP rear Sony camera. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 8000 only.
Other high selling models Mi3, Mi4 will also be offered in India. Mi3 will have 5 inch 1080p display, 1.8 GHz processor, 1.5 GB RAM with 13 MP rear camera. The pricing could be around Rs. 15,000.
MiPad is an iPad killer from Xiaomi. A 10400 mAh power bank may also be on offer.
