The Civil Liberties Committee of Karimnagar has demanded a judicial enquiry into the matter of alleged harassment of a student leader by police. J. Ganes, state co-ordinator of Bahujan Samaj Student Federation (BSF) was allegedly tortured in the custody by the Karimnagar I town police and warned to leave the city, on October 21.

M Kumaraswamy, district general secretary of Civil Liberties Committee demanded for a probe by a judge of the High Court. He revealed that police had also abused the community to which the student leader belongs. He said that Ganesh was arrested for his alleged role in damaging furniture of a private junior college but he was actually not accused in the police records.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the CLC had completed an independent enquiry into the matter after the student leader filed a complaint with the CLC soon after the incident. He was not found culprit in the probe; neither a case had ever been lodged against him. His name was not included in the FIR.
