Christmas was celebrated with religious fervor and special prayers held in churches. The festivities began with midnight mass at many churches in Secunderabad, which has a sizeable population of Christians.
In Secunderabad at St John’s Church which is 200-year-old major congregation was held there Priests prayed for peace and highlighted the message of Jesus’ birth and at Lalaguda Anglo-Indian community also celebrated Christmas with enthusiasm and in a traditional manner.
At Medak , historic Church of South India (CSI) three-day celebrations also started. Believers carried a decorated cross into the church and placed it before a specially-erected hut.
At Rockwood Church, Gipson Church, ABM, Holy Faith and Cole’s Centennial Church in Kurnool district special prayers were conducted. Large number of Christians offered prayers in St Paul’s Church and Loyala Church in Vijayawada.
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States Christmas were celebrated with fervor.
In AP, the celebrations were held in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Ongole, Kadapa, Bheemavaram and other towns. CM K C R, N Chandrababu Naidu, Governor ESL Narasimhan and leaders of various political parties greeted people on the occasion.
At party headquarters NTR Trust Bhavan Naidu cut the Christmas cake.
K C R greeted Christian brethren on the occasion of Christmas celebrations held in a grand manner at Methodist Church on Chapel Road here. The Church head and bishops felicitated the Chief Minister and blessed him, who later cut a festival cake.
KCR said Telangana achieved statehood with the blessings of Jesus Christ and announced that -“In just one year, Christians in Telangana State will get one of the best Churches in India at Mahindra Hills in Secunderabad for which I laid the foundation stone.
He wished well-being of the people of the State. Deputy CM Mahamood Ali, Ministers Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Padma Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, T Nageswar Rao, MPs K Kesava Rao, Kavitha and other leaders of the party participated in the celebration.
