The Congress party today forced repeated disruptions in Parliament over the National Herald case, in which its two top leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have to appear in court. The government and opposition sparred in the Lok Sabha after Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that Congress leaders were being targeted.
“This is happening to the entire Opposition. If someone doesn’t agree with you, you are trying to harass them,” Mr Kharge said, raising the National Herald case.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said: “The government has nothing to do with it. It was a court order. Here they are threatening the judiciary through the Parliament… This is tanashahi (dictatorship). The Congress is not ready to accept verdict of the people in the elections.” Protests over “politics of vendetta” led to repeated adjournments in the Rajya Sabha.
