Cotton Farmers Plight In TS: Centre Expresses Worry

v6-cottonThe Centre has expressed its worries over sale of cotton in Telangana at prices lower than Minimum Support Price (MSP). The Centre also asked the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to protect the interest of cotton farmers by ensuring the MSP to farmers in the four cotton growing states, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.The Union Minister for Agriculture, Radha Mohan Singh called a meeting with the officials of Cotton Corporation of India or CCI to discuss the situation of cotton producers in India.The CCI asked the government to facilitate National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) the powers to appoint state agency or cooperative federation to safeguard the interests of cotton farmers.The meeting was also attended by Bandaru Dattatreya, the Minister of State, Labour and Employment Ministry.
