Criminals’ data base soon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a proposal for a revamp of the Crime and Criminals Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and decided to implement Integrated Criminal Justice System by integrating CCTNS with E-Courts by 2017. E-prisons, Forensics and Prosecution are the key components of the criminal justice system which will ensure quick data transfer and reduce processing time. It is now aligned with smart policing and Digital India. Police-citizen interface will undergo a major shift with the implementation of this project. CCTNS will interconnect 15,000 police stations and 5000 police officers and digitize data on FIR, investigation and charge-sheets. It would pave the way for a national database of crimes and criminals. It would lead to a Central Citizen Portal linked with State citizen portals that will provide police verification for passport, reporting a crime including cyber-crime and online tracking of the case progress, online reporting of grievances against police officials, accessing victim compensation fund and legal services.
