Cyclone fund for AP up

unnamedPrime Minister Narendra Modi today approved revised cost estimates for National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project for Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The cost has been enhanced by Rs 835 crore to Rs 2331.71 crore from Rs 1496.71 crore to address vulnerability of poor to cyclone. Central Government will provide Rs1843.94 crore through World Bank loan. Balance of Rs 487.77 crore will be contributed by AP and Odisha. The objective is to provide cyclone forecasting, tracking and warning systems, cyclone risk mitigation and building shelters, approach roads/bridges. It is expected to benefit 10.46 lakhs in Odisha and 7.18 lakhs in AP. It will also help protect 38,296 hectares in Odisha and 12,640 hectares in AP. The time limit of the project has been extended from January 31, 2016 to March 31, 2018 to complete the construction. Nearly 5700 km out of 7516 km of coastline is extremely vulnerable to cyclones
