Dalit woman kidnapped, raped: Police complacent

Untitled-15In a shocking incident, which came to light rather belatedly, a man kidnapped and allegedly raped a 24-year-old working woman in Punjab’s Muktsar in full public glare. The incident occured on March 24 and following the intervention of National SC/ST commission, the rapist surrendered before police today The accused, Gurjinder Singh, abducted the woman from her workplace and is seen in CCTV footage dragging her for 100 metres in broad daylight across a street lined with shops, as she struggled trying to break free and shouted for help. He took her to a farm house, outraged her molesty and released her after 24 hours. Shockingly, the police were complacent despite a complaint was lodged by the woman herself. They registered an FIR after five days but put it in cold storage, apparently on the pressures of the accused. The hapless lady then approached the National SC, ST Commission which directed the police to arrest the culprit and asked for a explanation on their complacency.
