Datsun Go, launching day after tomorrow in Indian market, is eagerly awaited by the market that has one third sales in the entry level car segment. Go will compete directly with Maruti’s Alto 800 and Hyundai’s Eon. The price of Go, around 3 lakhs could make it a tough to ignore option for first time car purchasers.
Nissan is re entering this budget car segment after 30 years. The Go is built on Nissan’s Micra platform. Though the appearance of the car is good enough, it is a little light on the features loaded. It will have a 1200 CC imported engine, The car will have single wiper, open glove box, no power windows in the rear, no AC or power steering in the base model, no ABS or airbags either.
Most of the parts of the car are procured from within India to reduce costs. The model was unveiled at the recent auto expo.
