Death toll 30, ex gratia annouced

61438801461_625x300The death toll in the train accident reached 30 and the railway announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs to the kin of those died, Rs 50,000 for seriously injured. Enquiry was ordered into the accident by the railway department. A special train carrying medical and relief teams to the site of the accident apart from Army and NDRF staff were also pressed into service to take up relief operations. Several trains coming from Mumbai, UP and Punjab were cancelled. Some trains were diverted to Rajasthan-Kota side and at Harda three trains were cancelled and 25 trains were diverted. Mumbai-Varanasi Kamayani express derailed at a culvert near the Machak river about 25 km from Hardha. Due to heavy rains the railway track came under water and gushed into the coaches also. Locals saved 300 passengers and they were sent to the Itarsi station. Jabalpur-Mumbai Janata Express which was also coming on the same track also derailed around mid-night between Khirkhia and Birangi stations. Authorities informed that the railway track was washed away under the impact of heavy rains.
