Department Of Atomic Energy Allays Fears About Nuclear Power

barcThe head of Public awareness division, dept. of atomic energy, Swapnesh Kumar Malhotra allayed fears over the safety and health related issues due to nuclear power plants.

Speaking at the 25th annual conference of Indian Nuclear society, on Wednesday he said thatutilising the nuclear power is the only way out to India as the energy demand is expected to touch 1400 giga watts/hour by the next quarter century.

The people of India are concerned and worried about the damages due nuclear power plants, which is a result of misinformation and misconception. The DAE is taking special care to clear the misconceptions from the minds of the people by using various modes including social media. He said

Recalling the incident in Nalgonda when he was beaten up by a woman opposed to the power plant, the senior official said that in future in place of conducting public hearing directly, social media would be used to mould the public opinion.

He quoted statistics to show that every country was vying for nuclear power due to obvious advantage. According to him China was constructing 27 nuclear plants and India has 4 nuclear plants under construction, at present.
