The respected cricketing magazine Wisden has announced it’s list of chosen cricketers for the year 2013. Five players were chosen for their performances during last English summer. Indian swashbuckling lefthand opener Shikhar Dhawan was named the Cricketer of the Year for his highest run scoring effort during the Champions Trophy last year. He scored 363 runs in five matches at an average of 90, including two centuries against South Africa and West Indies.
Chris Rogers, Ryan Harris – both Australian players, Joe Root – English batsman and Charlotte Edwards English women’s Captain are also mentioned in the list.
Dale Steyn is chosen as the Leading Cricketer of the Year for his 51 test wickets in just nine test at an average of 17. “Fast, penetrative and parsimonious, it was some combination,” Wisden commented about Steyn’s bowling.
Currently facing a poor form, out of favor of the selectors, Dhawan should feel encouraged with the award and regain his touch.
