This hockey genius wielded his stick with such a speed and skill that his display amazed even Hitler. Born on August 29, 1905 in Prayag in Allahabad he joined army at 16 to shine as hockey man and reached the Olympics. His key role for winning Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936 to take India to new heights are still fresh in the memory of all Indians. In all. He made 400 goals in his illustrious career and breathed his last at 74 on December 4, 1979 without reaching the Bharat Ratna award which he truly deserves.
