Dial 112 in emergency

oneThe Central Government is expected to launch ‘dial 112’ in case of an emergency particularly by women in distress. The government is firm on
maintaining the “Nationwide Emergency Response System” following the December 16, 2012 gang rape of a young woman in New Delhi. Various emergency call numbers – Police 100, Fire 101 and Ambulance 102 could be integrated into – 112 to act as “receivers” of emergency calls but
also as “responders”. All calls, SMSes and online chat will be integrated. A panel with Justice (retd.) J S Verma, former CJ, Supreme
Court, with Justice (retd) Leila Seth and Gopal Subramanian as members was set up for amending laws for speedy justice and to punish criminals. They recommended NERS and the Home Ministry said it received the project approval for Computer Aided Dispatch System for emergency response.
