Discount war in Air travel continues

The Madras based Sun group’s Spice Jet has literally started a price war among domestic air travel companies. Spice Jet has offered discounts of upto 75% on Monday, a shocking third offer of some discount within a month! All other major air travel companies are now jumping in to the wagon and now its discounts galore to the traveler!

Private airline Go air and Indigo have announced similar summer prebooking offers. GoAir has offered 70% discounts, bookings for which will open Monday. Indigo has also offered truncated ticket prices for select sectors. Government carrier Air India has also offered upto 30% discounts on advanced reservations, bookings will start today and will go on upto end of March. Air Asia, the Malasia based budget air travel company, to start services in India from September, has also announced to sell most of its tickets for discounted prices. Customers can pre book these tickets upto March 2nd.

Summer season sees a reduction of air travel bookings from 20% to upto 50%. It is imperative for companies to fill these seats for whatever amounts they may make. Getting upper middle class users to this sector also remains a long term strategy for these companies.
