The Union Civil Aviation Ministry passed orders on Thursday to name the domestic terminal of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad after the legendary Telugu actor, former chief minister and the founder of the Telugu Desam party late NT Rama Rao who is famously known as NTR.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and chief of TDP Nara Chandrababu Naidu informed the media about the orders passed by the Centre.
The old airport at Begumpet had its domestic terminal named after NTR, and the same was proposed at the then constructing airport at Shamshabad that was taken up by the then government under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership.
In 2004, Naidu lost to the Congress and YS Rajasekhara Reddy did not named the domestic terminal in Shamshabad’s airport after NTR when it started operations in 2008.
It would be interesting to remind that TDP’s Ashok Gajapati Raju is the Civil Aviation Minister at the Centre.
