The state government also needs to equip the department properly while sales tax evasion on goods imported from other states has been a major reason for crores of losses to the state exchequer. An official with the CT department said “The enforcement staff needs to be equipped to use Information Technology (IT) to scan the goods carried by these trucks. The scanners would also help in identifying bar codes issued by the department at the other checkpost.”
Experts say “One of the key reasons for the thriving interstate black market is lack of proper checks and enforcement. Well equipped check posts, properly manned, would help the government increase tax”.
