The irate cotton farmers have lodged a protest against Cotton Corporation of India for being very selective in lifting the produce. The farmers in Khammam protested at the cotton market yard, as the CCI did not lift about 75% of the produce claiming it to be of low quality. Reportedly, the Khammam market yard received about 90,000 bags of cotton in the last three days.
Revenue Divisional Officer Vinay Krishna interfered in the matter as he rushed to the market yard soon he was informed about the protest by farmers. RDO asked them to purchase cotton but the CCI officials argued that much of the cotton brought had moisture content over 10 per cent which they can’t buy.
The farmers demanded to lift the high moisture cotton at fewer rates. “We want the CCI to buy cotton with high moisture content at a lower price”, said G Shankar Naik, a farmer from Tirumalayapalem.
