One of South’s most in demand music director, son of legendary musician Ilaya Raja, Yuvan Shankar Raja revealed that his conversion to Islam happened after he was struggling about dealing with his mother’s sudden passing away. He described the exact moment as “a call by Allah himself” that led to his interest in Islam. A chance gift of a prayer mattress by a friend who used it in Meccah for prayers, gave him comfort and peace he had been searching for almost two years after his mothers death and strangely found it on that mattress, described Yuvan in a rare disclosure. “My father was the last person I told about my intention to convert, but he openly said that he did not approve of it,” said Yuvan in another peek into his persona life.
Yuvan also spoke about his married life and expressed hope that his search for a better half might turn lucky in the third attempt! “I first got married when I was 25, but my marriage lasted for three months. I again married when I was 30, but am now separated and on the way to getting a divorce. I feel very lonely and would like to get married again and have a family,” added Yuvan, also pointing out that he might need to give more time to marriage and home despite his busy life.
As he has converted to Islam early this year, he might also change his name accordingly, though a bit later, concluded Yuvan.
