Former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma, 68, has passed away this morning. He is survived by Agatha Sangma, who worked as minister in Manmohan Singh cabinet and son Conrad Sangma. Got elected from Tura in Meghalaya, Sangma had a unique style of running Lok Sabha. He has also held the post of Chief minister of Meghalaya from 1988-90. He revolted along with Sharad Pawar when the congress working committee endorsed Sonia Gandhi’s leadership stating that he cannot accept a foreigner in the top post. He opposed Sonia as prime ministerial candidate.
Lok Sabha was adjourned today as a mark of respect for Sangma. Members observed two minute silence. The House will meet again on March 8.
