Ashok Chavan has allegedly coerced the committee that was formed to allot houses for the war widows and defence personnel of Kargil war, to include some civilians and also allowed inclusion of his relatives through benami names. Some of his relatives have even got the flats located in a prime area of the city.
The courts did not give permission to CBI to question Chavan on the ground that the governor has not consented for it. At last, Mr Vidyasagar Rao has given green signal for his grilling and the decision would put Congress in a tight corner. Interestingly, Mr Sankara Narayan, who was the governor of the state a couple of years back refused to grant permission to CBI to question Mr Chavan. The scam has surfaced in 2010 and Chavan was one among the 12 accused facing charges of criminal conspiracy. He lost his post following the scam.
