Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has laid the foundation stone for the establishment of 125-ft tall bronze statue of Ambedkar –on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake-today. A coconut-breaking ceremony was held and a host of leaders, minister, MLAs and Union labour minister Bandaru Dattratreya have also participated. Once constructed, the statue is going to be the tallest structure in the state. He has also laid the foundation stones for the construction of 15-storeyed Ambedkar building as well as a building for Centre for Dalit Studies.
Mr Rao has also announced a slew of measures for the welfare of dalits on the occasion. “100 more residential schools for dalits, 20 junior colleges for dalit girls and 5 colleges for boys will be launched from the next academic year itself” he said.
