Love and affection between humans and fauna is well known and there are umpteen examples of animal lovers continue to pet animals and also adopt them for lifetime. But seldom does a bird make a man companion for a lifetime for the compassion he has shown towards it. This happened in Rio de Jenero in Brazil where an injured and starved penguin has turned loyal to its saviour and became his friend.
Joao Pereira de Souza, 71, a fisherman and a pensioner has found a little penguin languishing inside a heap of snow on the shore of a sea. Starving for several days and with oil entire the body, it is almost dying and Joao immediately rescued it and with the help of an ornithologist and a veterinary doctor, he provided some treatment.
Naming it as Dindim, he nursed it like a patient in a hospital for full one week. After the creature regains normalcy, he left it into the sea and it swam away. He thought that he would never see Dindim again in his lifetime. But surprisingly- after five months- Dindim reappeared exactly at the same spot where De Souza rescued it. Surprised at its reappearance, he took Dindim to his home and it has become a family member.
Every year the penguin swims 5,000 miles for breeding off the coast of Argentina and Chile and stays at the house of his friend De Souza for the remaining eight months. Soon after the breeding, it swims back 5000 miles and reaches the small hut of his Brazilian companion.
Such is the bond between a bird and the person who nursed it back to health. Really, a bond that has no bounds.
