Based on an appeal of an activist Hemanth Pandey of RTI, the central information commission directed the home ministry to furnish the death report information after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi at Birla Mandir on January 30, 1948. The activist sought to know whether an FIR was filed or post mortem was conducted after the Mahatma fell to the bullets of assassin. The Gandhiji murder case once again hit the headlines. The Smruthi Darshan Samithy organisers, as per request of Gandhi’s family, replied that post mortem was not conducted on Gandhiji’s body. Pandey was directed to approach the Tuglak Road police station for FIR information.
After the assassination of the Mahatma at the hands of Nathuram Godse, the samithy was conducting the programmes on Gandhiji at Birla Mandir.
