Senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram told on Saturday that the recent figures shown in the GDP growth of the country must be credited to the former UPA government as the data is from the time when the Congress-led government was in power.
He stated that the first quarter growth is resulted because of the measures taken by the then UPA government.
Mr Chidambaram said, “We are therefore legitimately entitled to take credit for the revival of the economy, although much more remains to be done”.
He added, “The 5.7 per cent growth rate vindicates our position that the decline in economic growth had been halted in the middle of 2013-14 as well as our forecast that the upturn will take place in the beginning of 2014-15”.
He took the occasion to suggest Modi government to follow the policies of UPA government to keep the growth rate constantly high.
