Google facing 30 thou. crores fine in India

The search and technology giant Google can be fined upto 30,000 crores by Indian business watcher Competition Commission of India. It is part of the antitrust allegations leveled against the company and currently being investigated. The same allegation that Google has been misusing it’s dominant position in the search area for business advantages is going on in US also since last two years.

The allegations, if the CCI founds true, can lead to a fine to the company upto 10% of annual revenues. Google’s last annual revenue was a jaw dropping 49.3 Billion USD. Ten percent would be about 5 billion USD.

Google recent reached a settlement in European Union on a similar cases just weeks ago. But such settlement is not allowed in Indian law. Consumer Unity and Trust Society CUTS and another marriage website, which filed the case on Google won’t be allowed to withdraw the case. Hence Google might be up for a definite embarrassment here. Google is co operating with the CCI in every way possible, as told by themselves.
