EmcetHyderabad: Telangana state government is considering a proposal to scrap Eamcet over past five years, the seats in the engineering colleges has surpassed the number of students applying for the test.
Kadiam Srihari, the Deputy CM and minister for education said, the government is examining the “Tamil Nadu Model” of granting admissions in professional colleges based on marks secured in 10+2.
“There is a debate going on for the past few years whether Eamcet should be continued or not as the number of seats in engineering colleges has surpassed the number of students applying for Eamcet. There is also an argument that the Eamcet has lost its relevance. We will consult all the stakeholders before taking a final decision,” Mr Srihari said.
Mr. Srihari dismissed the argument saying the decision of Telangana government to conduct its own Eamcet was in accordance with the Act. The minister said that Telangana government will take all the measures to safeguard interests of Telangana students, irrespective of which Eamcet they opt for.
