Govt revives dependent employment scheme in SCCL

singareniThe long cherished dream of coal miners of Singareni Collories Company Limited has realised today as the state government announced revival of Dependent Employment Scheme in the company with immediate effect. The decision was taken at a key meeting held at Camp Office of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, who has also announced 23 per cent of bonus from the profits of the company this year.

Dependent employment Scheme will also be extended to those who could not get profited by VRS, according to Mr Rao.

So, the dependents of employees or the ones suggested by the employees will get employement and the process will be initiated soon. The Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, Mr Sridhar will work out the modalities for this. “The dependents of those who suffered grevous injuries while at work or outside, those who retire or those who have been suffering with severe health problems will get the jobs. This is a continuous process” Chief Minister said.

SCCL nets a massive profit of Rs 1066.13 crore in FY 2015-16. As per the government’s decision, 23 per cent of profit will now go to the employees and workers. This means the miners will get Rs 245.21 crore which means each worker will pocket a sum of Rs 43,078 as bonus this year. The workers had received 21 percent bonus last year. SCCL has produced a record 60.38 MT coal last year, according to Mr Sridhar, CMD.

Lauding the efforts of the miners, CM said they proved the power of Telangana. “ Never before during United AP days, such a massive production has taken place. Never did any government has announced huge bonus. Those who heckled at us earlier are now realizing our power” he remarked. He equated the miners with jawans who have been protecting the nation under extremely trying conditions. The government and the company shall be compassionate towards the miners, Mr Rao opined.

Former MP G Vivek, who participated in the meeting, has expressed happiness on the decision and thanked the CM for reviving the dependent employment scheme which was abolished during Chandrababu Naidu regime in 1998. He said Kavitha, the Honarary President of Coal Miners Association has played a key role in realizing the desire of miners. Mr Vivek has been placing requests before the government for quite some time on the issue, has said that the miners’ contribution in the struggle for statehood was immense and they deserve this benefit. The local youth will also get employment through this scheme, he added.
