Grand alliance in UP in the making ?

rahul-mulayamCongress has started making frantic efforts to stich a grand alliance –on the lines of Bihar- in the ensuing Uttar Pradesh elections.

The party has decided to make a grand alliance with Samajwadi party, RLD and JD (U).

As per the plan, Congress’ poll strategist Prashant Kishore has met Samajwadi supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and reportedly discussed the issue. Rahul Gandhi, Congress’ Vice President has sent his message to Mulayam but with one rider: i.e. Mr Akhilesh Yadav, the present Chief Minister, shall be the face of the alliance.

Mulayam, who of late, has been openly supporting his elder brother, Shivpal Yadav, has not revealed his mind immediately and sought time. Mr Amar Singh, another detractor of Akhilesh was also present in the meeting.

RLD and JD U are already in Samajwadi party’s nest and Congress’ entry may bolster the poll prospects, according to a section of congressmen. The alliance will have to take on BJP and BSP which have till date not made any efforts to cobble up electoral tie-ups.
