Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked farmers to raise the level of pulses production to help make India self-sufficient in pulses. Invoking former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s call “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” Modi asked every farmer to grow pulses.
Stating that steps were taken for the pulses sector, Modi said pulses were an important part of the diet of the common man. Speaking after laying the foundation stone of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute at Barhi in Jharkhand, he said that the need of the hour was a second green revolution in eastern India. Animal husbandry and fisheries were equally important for agriculture sector, he said and added that government had also decided to pay special attention to the dairy sector in Jharkhand. Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said the IARI would help in developing the economic zone in a scientific manner.
