Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday extended the stay on arrest of renowned social activist Teesta Setalvad till August 26 in Gulbarg Society fund misappropriation case.Justice AJ Desai adjourned the hearing on case and extended the stay on arrest of Setalvad along with her husband Javed Anand, Tanvir Jafri, Feroz Gulzar and Salim Sandhi tillAug 26.
The five persons had sought anticipatory bail from the HC as a sessions court here had rejected their pre-arrest bail plea onMarch 25.
A case was registered against Setalvad and others in January by the city crime branch for allegedly collecting Rs. 1.51 crore in the form of donations to turn Gulbarg society into a museum.
68 people were killed by a mob on February 28, 2002, in Gulbarg Society carnage during the riots following Godhra incident. Former MP Ehsan Jafri was one among the victims.
