The Election Commission is all set to announce polls in Haryana in a week or two, while the state may go to polls in October. As per the sources, the schedule for the state polls may be released around August 21.
The three other states, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir will go to polls in September or October, in multiple phases. The Haryana state assembly term ends on October 27 while Maharashtra on December 7 this year. Jharkhand’s assembly term ends on January 3 and J&K on January 19.
This set of elections is an important exercise as it will be Modi’s first litmus test after assuming power. The polls are important for the Congress too as it has to bounce back in the states of Haryana and Maharashtra where there lies a strong sense of anti-incumbency.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is expected to pull her legs in active politics with these elections.
