HC reserves verdict on Roja’s case

The Hyderabad High Court has reserved its verdict on a petition by the AP government challenging the single judge ruling on YSRC MLA- RK Roja’s suspension from the Assembly for one year. The two judge bench may pronounce its verdict tomorrow. Both YSRC and the government were firm on their stated postions. While PP Rao, public prosecutor informed that the government is ready to accept if Roja tenders apology for her remarks and behaviour, counsel for Roja- Indira Jai Singh rejected it saying that her client has done no wrong and there is no question of saying apologies.
A PIL was also filed today by lawyer Gopala Krishna Kalanidhi seeking contempt proceedings against the government for not obeying the orders of the single judge- which allowed the firebrand MLA to attend the session and stayed the decision of the House.
The High Court’s verdict assumes significance as the Assembly has not decided to change its stance on the controversial issue and made it clear that Roja’s suspension shall continue. The privileges committee which met today has also recommended stopping of all allowances and facilities that are given to Roja. The ruling party members have denounced the attitude of Roja saying- “her behaviour is a blot to democracy and the decency and decorum of the House is diminished with it”.
The YSRC has boycotted the Assembly today in protest against the discussion on the report of the privileges committee.
