Due to heavy downpour the life has become a stand-still in Mumbai from yesterday. The low lying areas have been inundated and even the railway tracks have come under flood waters. The railway authorities have cancelled several trains including locals. But the passengers were finding tough time to reach their destinations with the cancellation of locals. Daily 80 lakh people including students catch locals to reach their places of work and colleges and schools. Following heavy rains the State Government has announced holidays to all schools, colleges and offices. In the past 24 hours 188 mm rain fall has been recorded.
Govt steps up relief
Maharashtra has been alerted by the heavy rains and the government stepped up relief measures in areas affected by the rains. Water and food packets were being supplied to the passengers stranded in the trains. Arrangements were being made to run additional buses as the trains were cancelled. Meanwhile, the Met officials said that there were indications of heavy to very heavy rains in some areas. Authorities warned people to keep indoors and move out only during emergencies.
