High Court Asks Centre And State To File Report On Farmers Suicides

highActing on the petition filed by one Pakala Srihari Rao of Medak district, the High Court bench consisting of Chief Justice Kalyan Jyotisen Gupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar asked the centre and state governments to file a comprehensive report on the steps being taken to handle the issue of farmers’ suicide.

The petitioner had pleaded the High Court to direct the state government to extend a relief of 10 lakh for the farmers who had committed suicide.

The bench also remarked that the government was only focusing on sports personalities and celebrities.

“It seems that the government is focusing on one side, by extending financial benefits to sports personalities and celebrities and also spending huge amounts on entertainment. The government has to be pragmatic towards framers.” The chief justice remarked
