Hearing a plea seeking ban on campaigning by BJP MP Yogi Adityanath and Union minister Kalraj Mishra in the upcoming bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments, as well as the Election Commission.
Both the BJP leaders have been accused of creating communal sensations and raking up ‘love jihad’ issue ahead of the upcoming by-polls.
Earlier, a body of Muslim intellectuals, The Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC), had demanded action against Yogi Adityanath accusing him of trying to disturb peace in the country by deliberately issuing communally aggressive statements.
Yogi had said recently that riots happen wherever minorities are more than 10 percent in numbers while there is no place for non-Muslims where they are more than 35 percent.
BJP attempted to justify its decision by saying Yogi has been made star campaigner after much deliberation.
