High Court Sits on Farmers

Crisis-farmersThe High Court reacted sharply on the suicides of the farmers. Hearing the petitions which alleged that the suicides of the farmers take place due to the negligence of the governments, asked the state governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as to what steps they took to mitigate the sufferings of the farmers. The High Court which had already heard on the petitions filed by Kodandaram on this issue, now again heard those petitions with two fresh petitions. The counsels for the petitioners appealed to the Court to direct the government to appoint state level commission with the participation of the farmers. Responding positively to the request, the High Court directed the two Telugu states to appoint a state level farmers commission. As the states asked six weeks time to do so, as it is a policy matter, the Court adjourned giving them time.
