High-mast tricolours to fly at all central varsities: HRD Minister

HRD MinisterAt a time when the issue of nationalism hots up the political spectrum, the centre today came out with a decision of making the national flag fly high at all the varsities in the country.

The national flag will now fly prominently at all central universities, the Union human resource development ministry.

The tricolour will fly on a 207-feet high mast on the campuses to signify “strong and united” India.

A unanimous resolution to this effect was adopted by vice chancellors of the central universities in a meeting led by Union HRD minister Smriti Irani in Surajkund.

The HRD ministry called the meeting of VCs after the death of dalit scholar Rohith Vemula at the University of Hyderabad triggered a massive controversy and brought the spotlight on problems faced by disadvantages sections.
