Born on December 3, 1950 in Handihal area of Bellary District, Karnataka Justice HL Dattu on Sunday sworn in as the 42nd Chief Justice of India. He will replace Rajendra Mal Lodha as the Chief Justice of India. He will remain on the post till December 2, 2015.
Justice Dattu is the head of the Supreme Court’s bench monitoring investigations into the 2G spectrum.
Dattu started his career as an advocate in 1975 in Bangalore where he dealt with all type of judicial matters.
Justice Dattu became the judge of Karnataka High Court in 1995. Then he became the Chief Justice of Chattisgarh High Court in 2007 and joined Supreme Court as a judge in December 2008.
He also served as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court for a short-term.
