Human Rights Commission sends notice to Centre on HIV+ drug scarcity

hivAfter the media reported about scarcity of drugs of HIV patients throughout the country, the National Human Rights Commission on Thursday has issued notice to Union Health Ministry.

The media had earlier revealed that there is a severe stock-out of life saving medicines at Government owned centers throughout the country, and especially in Mumbai and Delhi.

The NHRC issued the notice to the Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi to submit a factual report within two weeks. The NHRC also sought the report on the short term and long term measures proposed for preventing shortages of such essential medicines.

The centers in Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Manipur are facing the severe scarcity of ARVS, the drug for the HIV positive patients.
