Hyderabad Police Goes ‘smart’

policeActing on the advice of ‘tech savvy’ Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the Hyderabad police opted to reach out to the citizens through Facebook.

Recently, at the annual conference of DGPs in Guwahati the Prime Minister had asked the police to initiate SMART policing, which meant Strict smart and sensitive, Mobile and modern, Alert Responsive and technologically trained.

And now as per his advice, every police station in Hyderabad has opened its Facebook page, through which it can invite suggestions and interact with the citizens.

Elaborating on the move Telangana DGP Mr. Anurag Sharma said: “The objective to use social media is to enable local communities to identify their felt needs of policing and communicate to the local police in real time”.

Even though the DGP inaugurated the Facebook pages of every police station, it seemed the police was not fully prepared. People looking for the pages of Charminar, Falaknuma, Moghalpura etc. were directed towards the home page again. It looked the police needed some more time to ‘get hands on the technology’.
