As part of state government’s Haritha Haram programme, massive tree plantation drive is underway in Hyderabad today with nearly 25 lakh sapplings are to be planted in public places as well as residential areas. Governor ESL Narasimhan led the way by participating in the drive at BHEL along with the urban development minister Mr KT Rama Rao and Irrigation minister T Harish Rao. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao has also planted a sapling at NIMS this morning.
Governor Narasimhan has called upon the public not to wash off their hands after planting. You have to save the plants, take steps to protect them and there by you can save the planet. Minister K T Rama Rao stated that plans are afoot to bring a legislation to make plantation mandatory in the real estate front and said that no permission will be given if no sapplings are planted in certiain area of the proposed construction (of building, complexes etc)
GHMC plans to plant nearly 3 crore sapplings in the coming three years. Today’s drive is said to be one of the biggest in the country and it eyes on making it to the Guinness Book of World Records, according to officials. The Commissioner of GHMC Mr B Janardana Reddy said 28.5 lakh pits were dug to plant 7.5 lakh sapplings in the city. Medicinal sapplings were planted at KBR Park. Many celebrities including Tollywood personalities and social biggies have made their presence in the event.
