Union home minister Rajnath Singh here on Friday flagged off “Run for unity” to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel.
Observing that the English rulers did not intend to see India remain “Akhand” post–Independence, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said it was Sardar Patel who united the country. He said the credit for making Hyderabad an integral part of India goes to Patel. Surprisingly the pledge was administered in Telugu by Singh on the occasion and inaugurated the ‘Run for Unity’ from Patel’s statue in front of the Legislative Assembly Building.
Many people were part of the event including BJP national Vice President and MP Bandaru Dattatreya, Floor leader of BJP in Telangana Legislative Assembly K Lakshman, state BJP President G Kishan Reddy and other leaders.
The Home Minister recalled history of how 562 sovereign States across the length and breadth of the country were brought together, under the flag of the Indian Republic, in 70 days between June 4 and August 15, 1947.
Mr. Singh emphasized that had someone like Sardar Patel not been there, we probably would not have been Bharat-waasi, as in citizens of India. He also attended the parade for IPs officers on the police academy.
