ICC test rankings: Ashwin emerges no.1 All-rounder

ashwin_2203bcci_630Indian off spinner, lately consistent batsman Ravichandran Ashwin moved to top position in all-rounder rankings in ICC test listing. International Cricket Council announced the test cricket rankings on Monday. Ashwin scored 40 and 46 runs in fourth test, playing his first match in the series against England. At a time when records were being set up by Indian batmen in duck outs, this show helped him to reach top place with 372 points in the all-rounder listing displacing South Africa’s Vernon Philander. Ashwin made debute in test cricket in 2011 against West-Indies. Ashwin scored two centuries along with 104 wickets in 20 test matches.
Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara regained the number-one rank in batsmen after 2007. Sangakkara gained 31 points with a double century against Pakistan in the ongoing series which helped him to return to the top spot. Indian batsman Pujara lost his place in top ten and stood at 12th. Poor in form batsman Virat Kohli dropped to 20th rank from 15th.
South African bowler Dale Steyn continued at top place in bowling. No Indian bowler figured in top ten with Ashwin again featuring as the highest ranking Indian bowler at 13th rank losing one rank. Pragyan Ojha and Ishanth Sharama are at 15th and 20th respectively.
