IIT Kanpur unveils top fifth super computer in India!

IIT Kanpur has designed and unveiled a new super computer, built at a cost of 48 crores, which is termed top fifth super computer of the Country! The computer was designed and constituted by the computers department of the technology institution and will be used for the research and training purposes of the institution.

“Supercomputers are used in many areas of science and engineering research,” said Ashish Dutta, the head of Computer center who participated in the development. “The general area of research that uses supercomputers is called high-performance computing (HPC). HPC can simulate nuclear explosions, evolution of galaxies, effects of pacemaker redesign, genetics and genetic related diseases, medical drug discovery, aircraft flight, aerodynamics, etc,” explained SC Srivastava, the institutes deputy director who participated in the event.

The computer is ranked 130 in the list of global top 500 super computers.

3) CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute (CSIR-4PI), Bangalore

6) Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO, Trivandrum)
