Imbalanced Caste and Gender Equation in Cabinet

CabinetSeveral sections within the ruling TRS seems unhappy after the first expansion of the state cabinet since formation in June. K Chandrasekhara Rao added six new faces in his Cabinet. The total strength has been raised to 18 now.

The SC and BC communities are not happy with the overwhelming representation of Reddys and Raos in the Cabinet. Out of 18, 6 ministers are Reddys while Velamas got four berths.

Reddys comprises 6 per cent of state population, and received 33 per cent representation in the state Cabinet. Velamas are less than 2 per cent in the state’s population and 22 per cent in the state cabinet.

Amazingly, no woman representation granted by CM K Chandrasekhara Rao in the Cabinet. Konda Surekha was a frontrunner to grab a ministry but she was absent from the swearing in ceremony.

Kova Lakshmi, a tribal woman leader was also expecting to seal a berth but Ajmera Chandulal has been made a minister.
