In a nail-biting finish, India defeated Bangladesh by just one run in a key Super 10 last-ball thriller in the ICC Twenty-20 World Cup at Chinna Swamy stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday night
Bangladesh, often described a minnow, has virtually given Team India a run for its money till the last ball. It’s a brilliant performance which mesmerized every one and one of the commentators even remarked that ‘Bangla is the real winner going by its fantastic all-round performance’
In a low-scoring match, Bangladesh chased a rather easy target of 147 runs with grit and dogged determination but committed some tactical mistakes in the final overs leading to its defeat. They could score 145 in the stipulated overs
It was a see-saw battle as Bangladesh needed to score 11 runs in the last over. Hardik Pandya was the bowler. Bangladesh lost its seventh and eighth wickets at 145 runs. It required to score two runs for the last ball of the match . But another good delivery from Pandya forced the batsman to come forward but missed the hit and Dhoni was quick enough to bail the stumps out.
Earlier, put into bat after losing the toss, India could score just 146 in the stipulated 20 overs. Slow batting by Indian top and middle order were said to be the main reasons for India’s debacle. Shikhar Dhawan (23), Rohit Sharma (18), Virat Kohli ( 24), Suresh Raina (30) and Hardik Pandya (15) played rather safe innings and had not tried for big shots but only occasionally. Yuvaraj Singh failed with the bat again scoring just three runs. Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja were not out on 12. Al Amin and Musthaafizur took two wickets.
Ravichandran Ashwin was the man of the match
