Al-Quds University conferred honorary doctorate on President Pranab Mukherjee on October 13, at a ceremony held in Ramallah. On the occasion, Pranab announced setting up of an India-Chair in the Al Quds
University and said India has always been happy to partner Palestine in promoting education. Around 12,000 Palestinian students have
graduated from Indian Universities, many of them on scholarships as today they serve as a bridge between the two countries. India recognized PLO as the legitimate representative of Palestinians in 1974, India was the first non-Arab country to recognize the State of
Palestine in 1988 and voted for accepting Palestine as a full member of UNESCO, he said.
