India Donates $1 Million for UN Women

Untitled-1Fulfilling its promise made to the United Nations, India has delivered a help of $1 million to the body on gender equality and women empowerment.

Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister for External Affairs handed over the cheque to Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

This aide is for the financial year 2014-15. This help goes to the voluntary budget of UN Women (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women).

This is the fifth installment of the total contribution of $5 million to the UN body, as per the pledge India had made.

On the sidelines, Sushma Swaraj re-affirmed the commitment of Indian government to support the goals of UN Women. The UN aims and heads towards gender equality and gender mainstreaming through this initiative as a part of the post-2015 Development agenda.

India holds the post of founding member of the Executive Board of the UN women.
